Your Worst Enemy

Do you ever feel like your life isn't going anywhere? You find yourself caught up in the same routine day after day. You're not working anywhere new. You're not meeting anyone new, and you find yourself bored. You wonder, "What is God doing? Why won't He bless me? Why won't He introduce something new to me? Why doesn't He lead me in a different direction? Why doesn't He open new doors for me to walk through?" Well, have you wondered if it's not God, that maybe you are the one in the way of the blessings God has in store from you?
I bet you thought that this was going to be a rant about Satan, how he messes up everything and all the bad is because of him, but it's not, and he's not your own worst enemy. Did you know that your worst enemy is you? I mean, think about it - sin is fun to do! It feels good. Feels dangerous. Even feels kinda cool, like YOU'RE cool. You get in so deep that you don't know how to get out of it. If you're being honest, you don't REALLY want to get out of it.
Habakkuk 1:13a says, "Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; You cannot tolerate wrongdoing..." Because of this, God can't just open the floodgates of His blessings He has for you. What kind of God, what kind of Father would do that - grant His child's wishes and s/he doesn't experience any consequences for disobedience? We both know children who have parents like that, and how do the children turn out? Spoiled, entitled, disrespectful to authority. Nobody wants to deal with children like that. God FOR SURE doesn't.
So, it's time to ask yourself the question - which means more to you: pleasing God or pleasing self? The desires of your heart or the desires of God's? God's kingdom come or your Kingdom Fun (which WILL come crashing down, by the way)? I know what you're thinking; it's easier said than done. My friend, I completely relate to that, wholeheartedly. I have my own struggles, but it's all about taking time with God, "studying to show thyself approved to God" (2 Timothy 3:16), and "being transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Romans 12:2). You CAN change. That sin CAN lose its power over you. That temptation CAN become less and less powerful. It just comes down to your heart, your determination, and your dedication. It's going to be a day-by-day, maybe even minute-by-minute battle, but it can be won!
1 Corinthians 10:13 ~ No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
And THAT is truth.
